Lenzing Group has joined forces with OceanSafe to launch a next-generation yarn designed to meet rising demand for sustainable, high-performance materials in the textile industry. The collaboration blends Lenzing’s wood-based TENCEL Lyocell A100 fibers with OceanSafe’s ocean-biodegradable co-polyester naNea, creating a new option for brands seeking durability, function, and environmental responsibility. This innovative blend showcases how the industry is moving toward more circular solutions and embracing sustainable performance textiles as a core part of future product development.
To demonstrate the capabilities of the new yarn, Lenzing and OceanSafe introduced a capsule sportswear collection that includes women’s yoga wear, men’s athleisure T-shirts, and fleece jackets. The materials are engineered to combine natural softness, moisture control, and odor resistance from TENCEL Lyocell A100 with the endurance, tear strength, and quick-dry properties provided by naNea. Beyond apparel, the companies see potential applications in footwear, home textiles, bags, and technical textile categories, offering a scalable alternative to conventional polyester for manufacturers ready to shift to biodegradable and circular materials.
Both companies emphasized that the yarn was developed through extensive industry collaboration, bringing together partners specializing in yarn development, knits, fleece technologies, and insulation. OceanSafe said the goal was to deliver an upgrade, not a compromise, for brands that want responsible choices without sacrificing performance. Lenzing added that this joint effort showcases how collective expertise can drive meaningful change at scale, helping accelerate the adoption of sustainable performance textiles across global markets.
