Loop Industries has introduced Twist, a new circular polyester resin designed for fashion, sportswear, and home textiles, marking a major step in promoting sustainable textile production. The launch signals the company’s commitment to helping the industry shift from linear production models to circular systems focused on material innovation and environmental responsibility. Loop is actively negotiating offtake agreements with apparel brands for its planned joint venture in India, where Twist will be available as the branded product.
Twist is produced using Loop’s proprietary depolymerisation technology, which breaks down polyester textile waste into its original monomers, DMT and MEG. These monomers are then purified and re-polymerized into high-quality Twist resin, removing dyes, colorants, and other contaminants. The result is a resin chemically identical to virgin polyester, offering high purity, consistent color and dyeing properties, and smooth integration with existing spinning and manufacturing processes. According to Loop, this process also supports textile-to-textile recycling and reduces environmental impact, saving up to 418,600 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually, with an 81% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to fossil fuel-based resins.
Transparency and accountability are built into Twist, with embedded chemical tracers allowing customers to track the final product back to the original waste textile inputs. Loop plans to scale production at its Terrebonne facility and the upcoming Infinite Loop India facility, providing competitive pricing without sacrificing performance or sustainability. Giovanni Catino, Loop Industries’ chief revenue officer, highlighted that Twist “represents a major step forward in closing the loop for textiles,” supporting the industry’s transition to circular models while meeting customer needs for sustainable materials in the global market for circular polyester resin.
